The following news was the subject of a post by the new AQUI Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Daniel Merrifield - who has been on the AQUI Editorial Board since 2011. It was posted at the end of 2025.

Aquaculture International, published by Springer Nature in partnership with the European Aquaculture Society (EAS), had a great year in 2025, marked by significant growth, strong community engagement, and continued scientific excellence.

Over the past year, the journal has experienced a remarkable increase in activity and impact. Manuscript submissions rose by 50 percent compared with 2024, highlighting the expanding scope and vitality of global aquaculture research. In total, more than 630 articles were published in 2025, while the journal maintained a highly selective acceptance rate of 20 percent, ensuring the continued quality and credibility of its scientific output.

This success would not have been possible without the commitment of the peer review community. Nearly 350 reviewers contributed to the journal during 2025, delivering approximately 1,600 thorough, constructive, and high quality reviews. Their expertise and dedication remain central to maintaining the scientific standards of Aquaculture International.

The Editorial Board extends its sincere appreciation to all authors and reviewers for their continued trust, collaboration, and support. Their contributions play a crucial role in advancing knowledge across the diverse fields of aquaculture research.

Looking ahead, Aquaculture International is pleased to announce the introduction of the Annual Aquaculture International Impact and Excellence Awards. These new awards will recognise the most impactful papers of the year and acknowledge outstanding contributions from reviewers, further celebrating excellence within the research community.

With a strong foundation and an engaged global network of researchers, Aquaculture International looks forward to another productive year and to continuing its role in supporting and disseminating high quality aquaculture research worldwide.
