Taking place in the beautiful Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, AE2026 will put the focus on adaptation to climate effects, the latest research on species adaption capacity and the health/welfare/nutrition/breeding factors that underline this. While Slovenia has a low aquaculture production, it has plans for development of existing and new production methods and species and it is at the heart of central/southern Europe -adjacent to Italy, Croatia, Hungary and Austria – and hence providing a regional focus for both inland and marine aquaculture. PRE-CONFERENCE TOURS Make the most of your Aquaculture Europe 2026 experience by joining one of our exclusive pre-conference tours on Monday, 28 September. These one-day excursions offer a unique opportunity to discover Slovenia beyond the conference venue, combining outstanding landscapes, local aquaculture expertise, regional traditions, and memorable shared experiences with fellow participants. Choose Discover Bled & Beyond: Lake, Tradition & Trout for a full day of iconic Slovenian scenery and authentic flavours. The tour includes Lake Bled and a traditional Pletna boat ride, a visit to the Bled Fishing Association fish farm, a tour of the Mihovc family trout farm, and a special lunch at the farm featuring local fish products. The tour runs from 08:00 to 17:00, costs €60, and is limited to 50 participants. Or join Discover Tolmin & Beyond: Hatchery, Gorges & Nature for an immersive journey into the Soča River basin. Participants will visit the Faronika hatchery, where native species such as marble trout and grayling are bred with respect for nature, before exploring the spectacular Tolmin Gorges at the entrance to Triglav National Park. This tour runs from 07:30 to 16:30, costs €40, and is also limited to 50 participants. Participants should bring their own lunch and wear suitable hiking shoes for the gorge walk.
