Climate Action in Aquaculture Workshop
Monday 28 September 2026 | 12:00–17:00 | Aquaculture Europe 2026, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Room: Gallery 1 (entrance via Kupola Hall)

Climate change is already reshaping both freshwater and marine aquaculture. Rising temperatures, heatwaves, droughts, floods, and extreme weather events are no longer future risks — they are challenges the sector is facing today. Building a resilient and sustainable aquaculture industry requires urgent, coordinated, and evidence-based action.

The Climate Action in Aquaculture Workshop, organised by teams from the University of Stirling and Nofima, brings together government representatives, industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers for a dynamic, full-day knowledge-exchange event at Aquaculture Europe 2026 in Ljubljana.

The workshop will explore the impact of climate change across European aquaculture regions — from the Atlantic and Mediterranean to Central Europe and the Baltic — through situation reports and expert discussion. Speakers include researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers, among them Lorella de la Cruz Iglesias, Deputy Head of Unit for Blue Economy Sectors at DG MARE, who will address EU policy on climate action, and an expert panel featuring voices from the ASC, the University of Bologna, and the Hungarian Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform, among others.

The afternoon will feature an interactive Mentimeter session designed to identify priority needs and drive practical, impactful solutions from the floor. The workshop will close with a Call for Climate Action in Aquaculture, presented by Elisabeth Ytteborg (Nofima) and Lynne Falconer (University of Stirling).
