A seminar looking at ways to ensure greater gender diversity at all levels of the aquaculture sector will take place on Wednesday, 9 October at our Aquaculture Europe (AE2019) conference.
Jointly organised by the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) and The Fish Site, the Women in Aquaculture seminar will offer first hand insights into how women can overcome perceived gender-related obstacles and build thriving careers right across the aquaculture sector.
“Many promising young researchers and many of the top aquaculture executives from Europe and beyond will be in Berlin for the annual EAS conference and this special session aims to help companies engage with proactive strategies for building diverse workplaces,” explains Alistair Lane, Executive Director of EAS.

Aquaculture Europe 2019 in Berlin has the theme “Our Future – Growing from Water”. The Plenary sessions of the event feature prominent speakers to give their opinions and overviews of different aspects of the theme. So we are pleased to present you our AE2019 Plenary Sessions and speakers.

Our first-ever EAStalk webinar was held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 14.00h (CEST).
Our presenter was Dr. Gavin Burnell, president of EAS at that time. Gavin gave an overview of the principles and practice of aquaponics and presented some of the ways in which this novel technology could be integrated into various aspects of aquaculture production and pedagogy.
After a lifetime of teaching and research in aquaculture and marine biology, Gavin is now retired but still actively involved in several EU and national projects. Nowadays his focus is on a holistic approach with a particular interest in the circular economy as a way of sustainable production. In addition to editing Aquaculture International, Gavin is the current President of the European Aquaculture Society and will host our 2020 conference in Cork.

The workshop will be held on 08th of October, from 10.30 am - 17.30 pm in Estrel Congress Center in Berlin.
Participants of FARMER’S DAY will have free access to the trade show of Aquaculture Europe 2019 with more than 140 international exhibitors.
The AQUA-LIT project is working with the aquaculture sector to prevent marine litter from entering the sea. The project partners are planning an interactive event: the AQUA-LIT Learning Lab, to encourage participants to exchange insights and opinions about the issue of litter in aquaculture and discuss possible solutions.
The AQUALIT Learning Lab will take place in Berlin on the 9th of October back-to-back with Aquaculture Europe 2019.
