At the opening session of the Aquaculture Europe 2010 event, organised by the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) in Porto, Portugal, from October 5-8, 2010, Mr. Courtney Hough, General Secretary of the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP), was presented with an Honorary Life Membership of EAS. A short film made for EuroparlTV on aquaculture, in the light of the 2009 Commission strategy on the development of the sector, and the report by MEP Guido Milana of the Committee on Fisheries.
Three studies carried out for the Committee on Fisheries of the European Parliament are now available online (search under Fisheries). The studies - Evaluation of the Impact of « A strategy for the Sustainable Development of European Aquaculture » COM (2002) 511 Final (Coordinated by the EAS and available in ES,DE,EN,FR,IT); Regulatory and Legal Constraints for European Aquaculture (available in ES,DE,EN,FR,IT) and European Aquaculture Competitiveness : Limitations and Possible Strategies (available in EN) - were done to assist the Committee in formulating its opinion on the Commission 2009 Strategy for the development of European aquaculture.
Aquaculture International (AQUI), our scientific journal is planning a new section called “Perspectives”. This contains short papers that describe in which direction a particular area of research is likely to develop. Knowing that writing articles is time consuming we are encouraging EAS members and others to send available text that would be more or less ready for publishing. “The state of the art and progress beyond” as required by FP7 or other project proposals could be ideal for that. At each of our annual AQUACULTURE EUROPE events, EAS offers awards of €250 to the Best Poster and the Best Student Poster - as judged by the session chairs and then by the Programme Committee co-chairs. AE2009 was no exception. CONGRATULATIONS to the winners.....
