Important Update: EAS Student Membership Changes from 1 September 2026
The EAS Board of Directors has recently reviewed various aspects of EAS membership and has taken two important decisions regarding Student Membership, effective 1 September 2026.
We are delighted to see the continued growth of our student membership and hope that free EAS membership during your studies has helped you expand your network, connect with fellow students and professionals, and benefit from the many opportunities offered by EAS.
As students complete their studies and begin their professional careers, we also want to make it easier to continue your journey with EAS. To support this transition, we are introducing a new membership option.
New Individual Member, Transition
From 1 September 2026, EAS will introduce a new membership plan, Individual Member, Transition.
This membership is designed to provide an affordable step between free Student Membership and regular Individual Membership.
Transition Membership:
- €45
- Valid for a maximum of one year
- Available to EAS Student Members who have been members for at least one year
- Available only to students who are studying or have studied at a university in an eligible European country
After the Transition Membership expires, members can continue their EAS membership as a regular Individual Member, currently at a fee of €90.
Changes to EAS Student Membership Eligibility
From 1 September 2026, EAS Student Membership will be available only to students, regardless of nationality, who are studying at a university in Europe.
This change reflects EAS's continued focus on supporting and strengthening the European aquaculture community.
The list of eligible countries is based on the Wikipedia list of European Sovereign States and Dependent Territories, while recognising that not all of these countries have university-level aquaculture courses or curricula.
What does this mean for current student members?
If you are currently an EAS Student Member but are studying at a university outside one of the eligible European countries, you will not be able to renew your Student Membership from 1 September 2026.
However, you are very welcome, and encouraged, to continue your EAS membership as an Individual Member and continue to benefit from the EAS network, activities and opportunities.
Please note that the Individual Member, Transition option is also only available to eligible students who are studying or have studied in Europe.
Eligible countries
The following countries are eligible for EAS Student Membership from 1 September 2026:
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Vatican City.
Eligibility is based on the country where you are studying, not your nationality.
