This presentation will look at gill pathobiology in general and how often-multifactorial gill issues affect aquaculture production. Sharing personal and team experience principally from Atlantic salmon farming in Scotland, Norway and Chile, the talk will look at both existing and emergent diagnostic tools with application in gill health and also offer practical perspectives on the diagnosis and management of gill disorders.

Speaker bio:

Chris Matthews graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2004. After five years in equine practice in Scotland and Australia he completed a Masters in Aquatic Vet Studies at Stirling University. He has practiced as an aquaculture veterinarian for fifteen years, nine of those as Operations Director for Fish Vet Group and Business Unit Director (UK & Ireland) for PHARMAQ Analytiq following the former’s acquisition by Zoetis in 2020. Chris is an honorary lecturer at the University of St Andrews’ Scottish Oceans Institute.
