Aquaculture International Introduces Author Pre-Screening Checklist for Manuscript Submissions

Publications

The Editorial Board of Aquaculture International, the official journal of the European Aquaculture Society (EAS), has announced the introduction of a new Author Pre-Screening Checklist, which will become effective on 1 March 2026.

From this date onward, authors submitting manuscripts to the journal will be asked to complete and upload the checklist during the submission process. The initiative aims to support authors in preparing manuscripts that meet high standards of clarity, transparency, and scientific rigor before entering the peer review process.

In recent years, the editorial team has identified several recurring issues in manuscript submissions, including insufficient methodological detail, inconsistencies in data presentation, incomplete descriptions of experimental design, and limited clarity regarding statistical analyses. While these issues can often be addressed during revisions, they can significantly slow down the peer review and publication process.

The newly introduced checklist has been designed as a support tool for authors, helping them verify that key elements of their research are clearly presented and properly documented at the time of submission. In particular, the checklist focuses on ensuring transparency and completeness in areas such as:

  • Experimental design

  • Data integrity and reporting

  • Statistical robustness

  • Overall reporting standards

By encouraging authors to review these aspects before submission, the Editorial Board expects the checklist to improve manuscript quality at first submission, enhance transparency and reproducibility, and reduce the number of revision rounds required during peer review. Ultimately, the goal is to streamline the editorial process and improve the overall experience for authors, reviewers, and editors.

The Editorial Board emphasizes that the checklist is not intended as an additional barrier to submission, but rather as a structured way to help authors present their research to the highest possible standard.

Further information, including access to the checklist, is available on the journal webpage in the Instructions to Authors section.
